According to the latest numbers, the 2012-13 season is shaping up to be a record year. Nearly 183,000 deer have been harvested and checked in Arkansas, as of December 4. The previous record harvest was set in the 1999-2000 season, when 194,687 deer checked.
Many deer zones are closed to firearms until the Christmas hunt, Dec. 26-28, but those with the highest deer densities in the southern half of the state are still open. Add in archery season that is still open throughout the state until the end of February, and chances are extremely good that the 2012-13 season will go in the record books.
